NY Gallery Visit (1)

Where: NY Soho Galleries

Spring is near, it is almost the time for gallery hopping. It is a great fun in spring-summer in NYC.  It was not exactly ideal weather today (way too cold...) but there were many opened late, I found some really interesting ones.

The point of gallery "hopping" is literally to go multiple ones. I must say it is always mixed, you see something totally bad and then something nice, sometimes something really good. Below are those which I saw today, let's take a look.

1) Jose Parla "Walls, Diaries and Paintings"
Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery, March 3-April 16 2011

It was opening day and it was so packed. He is Miami based Latino artist, the art supposed to depict a mood of certain city and/or neighborhood, but I did not really get impressed by the artwork. I felt it was lacking of depth.

2) Marcela Cadena "A Solo Exhibition"
Agora Gallery, March 1-22, 2011

Cadena is from Mexico. In an interview, she said that "my art is abstract because the feeling do not have forms or boundaries." I liked the pictures, they were very pretty. I liked her larger pieces than smaller ones, I think when you draw an abstract picture with colors having central meaning, size matters.
